Police memorial ceremony set for May 18
EAST PEORIA – A ceremony honoring police officers killed in the line of duty will be conducted by the East Peoria Police Department at 1:30 p.m. May 18. The ceremony, part of National Police Week, May 15-21, will occur at the Public Safety Building, 201 W. Washington St., in front of the police memorial stone.
The memorial contains one name, Officer Henry P. Kounse, who was killed while attempting to apprehend an escaped prisoner and bank robber on Feb. 10, 1931.
The ceremony will feature the police department's color guard unit, remarks by Chief Ed Papis, department awards, music by East Peoria Community High School students and refreshments.
